It's Friday, it's a drawing day....
If you can't think of something for today..... Draw me a picture of what you are going to do, want to do, or wish you were doing over the holiday break. Put a subtitle on the bottom. School appropriate, of course, people. :) Please read this article (it's kinda long, I know...) and tell me what tracking means to typography. It's in the article... and tracking can mean loads of things in regards to different subjects, so please avoid just Googling it.
Who is Johannes Gutenburg, and what does he have to do with graphic design?
Hey guys, sorry I'm gone today. I managed to do an awesome job burning my hands cooking last night. I'm getting patched up today, & hopefully will be able to drive in on Monday.
In the meantime: don't forget to have your three versions done by the end of class today. ............ So... It's Friday Free Draw time. I've noticed that there haven't been very many submissions of Friday drawings here on the blog. If this is proving to not work out, I can stop the the Friday Free Draw warm ups, and do a regular warm up on Fridays. Please submit your drawing link here TODAY. Shepard Fairey is a contemporary graphic artist. He is very well known for three things. What are they? I'll give you some hints: one got him started, one made him famous nation-wide and one got him in a lot of trouble. After looking through all the non-profit options, and doing some research on the topic you've chosen to work with, would you please answer the following questions today:
What organization did you choose and why? Why do you think I asked you to design posters for non-profit organizations? Why not posters about something else? Why do you think there's a need for this organization or event (feel free to do some research today)? How do you think this topic/this need affects the students in our school? When you take a moment to really think about the problem your organization works to solve.... how does that make you feel? It's Friday Free Draw time! Yay!!! Here's your options for today's warm up:
Remember: 5x5" and 150dpi minimum.
Check out these two posters (movie posters, I know... not non-profit posters.).
Describe what you see and what they have in common. Check out these two non-profit posters. Look how they each are using color. Look at how they are organizing their text. In your comment today, describe (in your own words) how you see colors used in each poster, and describe what they did with the text in each. Watch your spelling and grammar, and be sure to talk about both posters.
Example: "In the Benefit Fiesta poster, the designer chose to..... In the Big Apple poster, the designer selected...." 1. Find 3 examples of posters or paintings that Alphonse Mucha created. Copy/paste your favorite into your comment here.
2. Compare what you saw to the illustration from contemporary artist, Karen Hallion, below. What do you see that is similar or the same? What is different? Read through this article. In your own words,
...tell me three important characteristics of Old Style typography. ...tell me the name of 4 Old Style fonts. |
