You've all done a great job identifying visual themes from the work of the 1960s. A few of the artists I've featured have included Wes Wilson, Victor Moscoso and Peter Max during this project. While it's important to understand what Principles and Elements make up a particular style of art, it's also important to understand WHY that style happened, and in what context.
We are Here to Make a Better World "We are here to make a better world. No amount of rationalization or blaming can preempt the moment of choice each of us brings to our situation here on this planet. The lesson of the 60's is that people who cared enough to do right could change history.
.....And we were right." - Abbie Hoffman

They were shocked by the Vietnam war. to show an alternate lifestyle. They protested against war, since there were so many deaths. They were working towards peace. I think that 9/11 issued a lot of problems in the US and cause a lot of people to rise up and take a stand

1. The counterculture of the 1960s was to stand against the traditional values of middle-class society and dressed the way they did as a sort of rebellion. They marched and protested because they wanted peace. In this era, many people were against the war taking place and were working towards a chance at peace.

The Counterculture of 1960, stood for Drugs, Sex, Love, Long hair, rock music, and most of all Peace. People were shocked, shocked by the Vietnam War. They marched and protested for peace. "Give peace a chance" one of the big sayings at the time, which is a prime example for them wanting and striving for peace. They did this in many ways besides just marching and protesting, they held peace concerts, Antiwar Demonstrations, and much more. In all, they just wanted peace and a good time during life.

1. The general sentiment of the culture was peace, love, and understanding. In order to convey this sentiment they staged protests (sometimes violent) against the war. The way they dressed and acted was in response to the materialistic values of the country at the time. The general goals of the group were to advocate ending our involvement with Vietnam and to cease thoughtless conformity by showcasing other options.

What they tried to do was to create peace. They also wanted to stop racism and wanted to have free rights for women, they also tried to stop drafting for soldiers during a war. Personally I agree with some of the things that they did such as ending racism and women's rights, doing drugs on the other hand was something that could have been avoided.

the counterculture pretty much is a lifestyle most rebellions took in at that age, the countercultures lifestyle was pretty much; sex, drugs, and anti-war protests. these people who were part of that counterculture stuff wore flowery stuff, tye-dye stuff, had long hair, rock music, and riots and other fun stuff like that. they dressed like that cause they were showing they were rebellions(?) Also another thing is these rebels would protest against war and how they want an anti-war lifestyle(I also believe they wanted marijuana legalized, I heard that was a pretty big protest also. BUt im not forsure on that)

1) Americans were pissed about the Vietnam war. They wore colorful and hippy looking clothing to represent peace and no violent's. Drafts, were being herd, racism is still going, women want their rights now. Wow so this is were hippie came from. Smoking weed getting high and having intercourse with each other and hoping for the best. That will not help at all with the troops in Vietnams. Protesting is good but the rest is not helping. in the modern day there's still people protesting about the world. Like jobs and laws. it happens around the world. Other countries are struggling as well.

they were protesting the Vietnam war and they were trying to preach peace, and rock and roll maaaaannnn, most people believed that the values of our culture at the time were messed up so they decided to introduce acid and other psychedelics to the us, along with unprotected sex, and the act of not showering. they really helped out huh?

The counter culture stood against the war in Vietnam, and just going against the government or "the man" in general. This also included things like schools and churches as well as racism. So the idea of having long hair, bright colors that people don't normally wear, and things like that were all just used as a form of protest against the government.

The United States government did not want communism to keep spreading through the world especially Vietnam so they sent in troops and had help from South Vietnam to prevent the Viet Kong from advancing their communist movement from spreading. American citizens and even celebrities wanted the Vietnam war to stop, because they thought the wear was unnecessary. So they protested, had rallies, and spread their message of peace. There is still protesting today like about legalization of certain drugs, laws, and especially about ObamaCare.

The counter culture stood mainly for peace between human beings. The counter culture sparked with the Vietnam war. America was harshly divided between people who were for it and people who were against it. The counter culture was against it and rebelled. 11/19/2013 04:26:51 am
Americas youth was paralyzed by the Vietnam war. they did not want family to go halfway across the world. the people wanted to have peace. alot of people are still like this, though not through riots or behaving differently, but thinking the same way.

1.) The counter culture or widely known "hippies" are very similar and different than rebellious punks. They are against the upper middle and government, but approach their protest in a much more violent way. "Flower Children" however, have the same values, yet approach their protest with peace and love.

The counter culture showed their concern through campus rallies, antiwar demonstrations, and concerts for peace after the Vietnam war. Their lifestyle was all about tye-dye, sex, and antiwar themed. They were looking forward to making peace. Which is what they were protesting for to make love not war. I can not say that some similarities happened to me.
